The Lummi Island UFO crash is one of the Pacific Northwest's lesser-known but most intriguing UFO stories. It allegedly occurred near Lummi Island on the night of July 27, 1984, in the waters between Lummi Island and Eliza Island in Washington State.
According to reports, two fishermen aboard a vessel called the 'Steeva Ten' witnessed a bright orange-white object streaking across the sky. The object was described as a fiery ball trailing sparks before plunging into the waters near Lummi Island. Witnesses reported a massive splash and unusual light effects.
The incident quickly attracted attention because some observers claimed the object did not behave like a normal meteor. Several reports suggested it appeared controlled or changed direction before entering the water.
Months later, local diver Dominic Papetti organized expeditions to search the seabed where the object allegedly entered the water. Divers claimed they located a strange object resting on the bottom and described it as a large metallic disc-like structure, even one reported feeling a hum through his boots while standing on it. What made the story more mysterious is that later dives reportedly failed to relocate the object.
Drawing on Coast Guard records, local news reports, and later witness testimony, Dolan explores the possibility that the Lummi Island incident may represent one of the rarest cases in USO history, a genuine underwater retrieval event.
