Spectacular Sun Diving Comet and CME - Aug 20, 2013 (Video)

During the late hours of August 20th, an unnamed icy comet from the outer solar system dove into the sun and disintegrated.

A spectacular far-side Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) was associated with the death plunge recorded by coronagraphs on board the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO).

  1. There was two comets , hours apart

  2. Wonder if ISON will crash into the sun or break apart when it goes around. Darned so many comet hitting the sun as of late!

  3. ...the comet didn't crash into the sun causing a big splash/CME...you are seeing an electrical "spark gap" /CME as the negatively charged comet moves through the magnetic field of the positively charged sun...the CME/ electric discharge captures the comet...not a result of an impact...
