Today, December 13, 2017 scientists from the "Breakthrough Listen program" (a global astronomical program searching for evidence of other civilizations) was launched by Stephen Hawking in 2015 and is funded by Russian billionaire Yuri Milner and CEO of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg will point the powerful Green Banks radio telescope which is located in West Virginia at the mysterious interstellar object named Oumuamua to listen for alien signals across four different transmission bands, reports RT.
Oumuamua was first spotted in the solar system by researchers on the Pan-Starrs telescope in Hawaii in October but due to its strange cigar-shaped body it has sparked rumors that instead of a meteor or asteroid it could be an interstellar alien craft speeding through our solar system as fast as 196,000 mph (315,000 km) as it went past the sun.
Although the 400 meter-long Oumuamua is already on it's way to the Pegasus constellation scientists at the Breakthrough Listen program take the opportunity to check the object for artificial signals.
